Daily Class - Geometry of the Alhambra

These daily classes are designed to be an interesting and fun introduction to how geometric art is made. All levels of artistic ability and experience are welcome. Classes last for 3 - 3.5 hours feature drawing and painting. We show how the designs of the Alhambra were created then draw a pattern using traditional techniques. The class gives you a deeper understanding of the art and artisans of the Alhambra. All participants created their own unique souvenir.

We have daily workshops where you learn how to draw and paint one of the incredible designs of the Alhambra.

These workshops are an interesting and fun introduction to how geometric art is made. All levels of artistic ability and experience are welcome. Classes last for 3 - 3.5 hours and feature enjoyable drawing and painting. We show how the designs of the Alhambra were first created then draw a pattern using traditional techniques. The class gives you a deeper understanding of the art and artisans of the Alhambra. All participants create their own unique souvenir to take home.

Our classes are a fantastic opportunity to learn about the unique cultural heritage of Granada. They are run in our relaxing, beautiful teaching studio in Realejo. We also run longer courses for those who are looking to learn more.

This was my second time learning to draw an Alhambra pattern with Mark and Kate and it was fantastic. I brought my parents who usually do not make time for art and were a bit nervous.
Mark explained everything very clearly and took time for each step. It was a lovely activity to do together with my parents in Granada - they loved it and can't wait to frame their paintings!
One tip- we needed a lot longer than 3 hours to finish painting, so save some extra time during your holiday for this! Mark & Kate are super welcoming, thank you!

Very good and rewarding workshop in a small group and cosy environment with two nice people as teachers! Advise is to take this class before your visit to Alhambra

This was a really fun stop during our trip to Granada.
In the class we booked, you can learn about Islamic art patterns, and choose one to reproduce with the teacher. Once done, you paint the pattern however you prefer.
Our teacher Mark was super nice and let us come back the following day to finish our work.
Super happy about the results! A great chance of pace from sightseeing and museums.

Simply a wonderful way to spend 3 hours - this is my third time doing the Alhambra pattern class and it gets better and better.
Kate and Mark are welcoming hosts, patient at explaining and generous with guidance.
It's a beautiful bright space with Kate's work lining the walls, the studio really is worth a visit in itself.

I had no artistic experience before I attended my first class, which was no problem. The class is aimed at all abilities, from absolute beginner to established artist. If you've already visited the Alhambra this will add to your knowledge, and if you haven't visited it will give you a taste of Arabic art. Alternatively, come to the studio because you want to relax, as the process of creating the pattern and painting requires gentle focus and becomes meditative ✨️

If you want to continue creating geometric art you can buy paper and various paints here (from single pans to a full 48 pan set!).

Also there's a brand new item, a mystery kit - a "Blind Date with a Pattern". It contains 3 coloured paints, 1 gold metallic paint, brushes and a pre-drawn pattern on A4 paper. Excellent value, absolutely beautifully wrapped, it would make a super gift (if you can bear to part with it!).

If I lived locally I would sign up for the 8 week course. As it is, I join a class every time I visit Granada. If you don't have time for a class, consider getting a "Blind Date" kit!

I had a great afternoon workshop with Mark. If you're a math person like I am you will brush up on some advanced stuff you thought was for kids, and you will learn basic visual arts techniques like transfers and watercolours. If you're an arts person you will learn about the beauty of math. And if you're neither, get ready to have your mind blown. Looking forward to meeting Kate on my next visit to Granada.

We had the most incredible experience at Kate’s studio, painting the Kissing Swallows design. Kate was patient and encouraging, and guided us through every step. We chose a large design so weren’t finished by the end of our session, and Kate invited us to return to an open session that evening to finish - we had a great time. It was such a unique experience, a real highlight from our stay in Granada - we recommend it to everyone.
