We had a fantastic time doing this experience and came away with something genuinely unique to remember our holiday by.

Our host, Mark, was excellent — incredibly patient throughout and clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the geometric designs found in the Alhambra. He started by explaining the different patterns, their meanings and the differences between them, before helping us choose the design we each wanted to create.

What made the experience particularly enjoyable was that we actually created everything ourselves from the beginning. We drew out the geometry using rulers and compasses, traced the finished pattern and transferred it onto the watercolour paper using the traditional rubbing technique. From there, we chose our own colour schemes and started painting, with Mark guiding us whenever we needed it without taking over.

Our session lasted around three hours, although I could easily see it taking a little longer with a larger group. It never felt rushed and Mark was happy for us to work at our own pace.

Neither of us are particularly experienced artists, so we were genuinely impressed with what we managed to produce! A really interesting, relaxing and hands-on experience, and something completely different from the usual holiday activities.

Would highly recommend visiting the Geometric Art Studio when in Nerja! Kate and Mark were so welcoming, fun and passionate about their crafts; their beautiful pieces of work are displayed in the studio too. I did the daily Alhambra class (a steal at €40) and managed to make something lovely—I don't do art normally but found the class particularly accessible considering. It was a combination of art, history, geometry and proper relaxation. Will definitely be visiting again when next in Nerja. Loved my time in the studio!!

Mark was a fantastic teacher and he breaks everything down so well to allow you to create a beautiful piece of art with no prior experience. I loved his class and will definitely be doing more classes if I get the opportunity in the future!

This is a little Alladins cave in Nerja. Beautiful gifts and all sorts of wonders that act as inspiration and tools for creatitivity. I bought beautiful gold paint there today and I look forward to returning for a painting session.

I joined one of the classes this week. Kate and Mark, who run the shop and shared in the tuition process, are an amiable couple and make the whole experience both educational and fun. I was really pleased with the piece I produced (kissing swallows) in the 3 hour session - despite having almost no experience of producing art since achool.
They both have the knack of guiding you just enough so that you are able to complete a finished piece by yourself that you can be proud of.
I'm really pleased with the end result and will definitely try to produce more once I get home.

Mark is a great teacher... he patiently walked us through the process of designing the patterns of azulejos. A fun afternoon making art to bring home a unique souvenir from Granada. Highly recommended!

Well-paced instruction on drafting and painting an Islamic tile design. I enjoyed Kate’s clear and encouraging teaching style and appreciated the advance planning and organization. I was new to watercolour painting and was intrigued by the process and effects. An interesting way to spend a few hours. My only suggestion would be to add another half hour to complete the painting without rushing. Thanks for a lovely session, Kate.
